Taiwanese blogger jailed for bad restaurant review

I’ll heading out to Taiwan later this year, so it was interesting to stumble across this news article about a Taiwanese restaurant blogger who has received a suspended prison sentence over a negative restaurant review. Although the sentence and fine of 200,000 Taiwanese dollars (just under £4,300) seems incredibly excessive, the blogger didn’t do herself [...]

Coming Soon – Hawksmoor Day! Three Meals, Three Hawksmoors in One Day.

Hawksmoor-athon I’m a big fan of Hawksmoor, a series of three steakhouses, that serve up some of the best steaks and burgers I have ever had. In a bold attempt at seeing if I have any sense of pacing, moderation, restraint or self-control, I’ll be having each of my three meals in one day at [...]

How to split the bill

According to Yahoo News, there are lots of factors to consider when splitting the bill. It’s like a socioeconomic minefield, but on a small silver plate: http://uk.finance.yahoo.com/news/How-split-restaurant-bill-yahoofinanceuk-14224902.html My favourite part of the article is the bit on what to do when eating out on a date. Classy. What’s your preferred method of splitting the bill? [...]

The top ten most popular London restaurants of 2011

Actually this is a list of the ten most read restaurant reviews here at The Picky Glutton, but that’s a considerably less catchy title. Naturally, this list is biased towards reviews from earlier on in the year since they have more time to gain popularity. The one startling exception is my review of Meatliqour which [...]

El Bulli is closing

I’ve never dined at El Bulli, allegedly the world’s best restaurant, which saddens me greatly as the famed Spanish institution is due to shut its doors shortly. The New York Times is marking the closure of Ferran Adrià’s seminal restaurant with a look at where Spanish haute cuisine and molecular gastronomy, or cocina de vanguardia as Adrià would [...]

Benihana loses libel lawsuit against blogger over bad review

The Kuwait-branch of international Japanese restaurant chain Benihana sued a local blogger over an unfavourable review back in February. According to UAE news website The National, the Kuwaiti courts have dismissed Benihana’s lawsuit granting victory to the Mark Markhoul, the blogger in question, although the grounds for dismissal weren’t stated in the report. Although the [...]

Meateasy now open until 16th April

Meateasy, south London’s burger pop-up restaurant of the moment, had been due to close by now but it has gotten a reprieve. It’s now open until Saturday 16th April, so if you want to try out their burgers then you only have a few more weeks to do so. Meateasy’s double patty Dead Hippy burger [...]

Benihana sues restaurant blogger

I once visited the Piccadilly branch of Benihana, the international chain of Japanese restaurants, on the recommendation of The Bastard. I wish I hadn’t as I was underwhelmed and disappointed by the food, which was mediocre at best. It might be dangerous to write such opinions though, given the news that the Kuwait branch of [...]
